Holiday cottages & apartments around Newport

Newport is one of Wales' best holiday destinations and yet one of its most overlooked. Perhaps it flies under the radar because people confuse it with the larger city of Newport, near Cardiff (although the two could not be more different). But whatever the reason, we're not sorry. The longer the crowds stay away from Pembrokeshire's Newport, the longer it will remain an unspoilt gem of a location for family holidays, romantic escapes and solo retreats.

Newport sits on the mouth of the Nevern Estuary on a stunning stretch of coastline looking out across the Irish Sea. A 12-century Norman settlement, the area has plenty to intrigue history hunters, while beach lovers will be spoilt for choice by the coves on offer. Be sure to visit the large expanse of Newport Sands, stunning Cwm-yr-Eglwys, Dinas Head to spot dolphins and seals, and Parrog, home to colourful fishing boats and the Newport Boat Club. Active holidaymakers can take a kayak out to explore the coastline, walk along the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path or head inland to climb the rocky slopes of Carningli for panoramic views of Newport and Cardigan Bay. Then, keep an eye out for wild ponies as you trek through the Gwaun Valley (where you'll find two breweries to slake your walker's thirst) and into the Preseli Hills.

Back in town, stroll streets filled with quirky shops and intriguing museums, and shop for one-off souvenirs at the Gallery yr Oriel or at the Newport Collective, where you'll find beautiful work by local artists. Then refuel at one of the many excellent eateries ranging from casual dining to hipster-approved cafes and award-winning restaurants serving locally sourced and foraged fare. Then catch some live music in one of the pubs before heading back to your choice of quality accommodation for a well-deserved sleep.
